all of my local friends...

i'm playing a show on friday night with my good friend john gladwin in fayetteville, arkansas. it's going to be at arsege's coffee shop on the corner of mission and crossover (in the plaza thing with harps and stuff). i will go on at 8pm sharp. it's free. him and i will be playing a few songs together and it's going to be fun. no one really knows about the show as i didn't want to tell anyone because i hate being background music but thought it would be fun to do a show where no one cared and didn't listen to me. if this sounds like a fun time to you then come on down and bring your friends. i'm going to be playing a million songs that i just wrote. i wrote three in the past week and i'll start with those, and go backwards from newest to oldest.

it would be nice to see some of my friends.

hey guys,
so only three shows left on the record release tour. it has been so good. so so good. so good we have changed plans and decided to tour right away again starting february and ending in april. i'll be adding another member as well so we will be a five piece band consisting of stand up bass, cello, keyboard, accordion, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums, and other odds and ends. the feedback from this tour was killer so i want to make the sound even more rad. yes, we still do poems live.

it's a two month tour and we plan on hitting the following states...
arkansas
oklahoma
texas
new mexico
arizona
california (around 15 shows in california alone)
utah
colorado
kansas
nebraska
south dakota
north dakota
minnesota
illinois
tennessee
florida
alabama
louisiana
and maybe a couple others...
the goal of the tour is much like the house tour i did nearly 3 years ago now...we are wanting to play smaller venues so they pack out nice and fun...coffee shops, houses, colleges, and just smaller rooms in general. we plan on having potlucks and dance parties most nights. the purpose is just to bring people together and make new friends and have a good time in a smaller more close knit environment. and it's called THE DANG DANG TOUR so you know it's gonna be hoppin'! in southern california we plan on doing a ton of shows so for those dates are open to doing youth or college group church functions on whatever night those happen to fall on. for the rest of the country we don't because we will be in and out.

i want to play high schools during the day as well. so if you see your state listed up there ask your teachers about having us come and do either a school wide performance or smaller scale one in the library or just getting a few of the english classes together. for high schools i can teach about writing and do poems and songs, etc. yes, this will cost money so before writing to my booking agent at all make sure your faculty knows there is a fee and they are willing to pay something to have us come. show them my book and record, assure them i'm a published writer and have done this stuff before, ya know, talk it up to them. you can get me there if you try, teachers LOVE it when their kids get excited about a poet, i've had librarians email me before, ha. and lots of kids enter my poems into school competitions all the time.

IF YOU WANT TO DO A SHOW EMAIL:  mrjonesbooking@gmail.com with the subject as "your city/state/dang dang tour"...with the following questions answered.

1)where do you do shows (be specific, city, state, venues, etc.)
2)what shows have you done before?
3)if this is a house show, how old are you? (if your house is super tiny don't bother writing...it needs to have a good sized living room)
4)how much money can you offer? how many kids do you expect?
5)why do you want to do the show?

thank you all for your support along the way...this tour brought out people that have seen years ago and are still coming around and still digging it. that warms my little heart like this snoring little pug asleep in the corner.

boise, idaho and out.

i am at an airport in orlando. i'm supposed to be in the airplane that left a couple hours ago but the florida highway department neglected to post that the turnpike taking poets to the airport would be closed for a small stretch, creating a 20 mile driveinto 1 hour and 45 minutes...so my show of 3,000 kids at this conference in peoria, illinois will be going on without me until i arrive too late to perform this evening. i will be able to do the seminars in the morning but it's always exciting to jam out in front of so many kids. oh well. it's all good.

...

tour is great. some shows are a bit weird because we might be playing with 6 metal and grindcore bands with names like "massacre of the umbilical chord" but ya know, we do what we do regardless.

...

so we've had 3 near death experiences thus far, all of which occured in the middle of the night/early morning:
one. hitting a deer on the interstate in wisconsin. "deer!"
two. crazy new york drivers and abrupt lane endings, twice in one night with rain. "bleep bleep bleep!"
three. a greyhound bus nearly pushing us over the edge of a hundred foot plus tall bridge. "dude!"

among fears i have in life like being rejected, unloved, and serious things such as that, i do fear dying in a blazing glory on the interstate. when you drive as much as i do you see how dangerous driving so fast so often is so dangerous. the fear hasn't impaired my life in anyway...it's not like someone afraid of spiders or something...it's just a persistant reality/fear that looms as i lay down in the backseat and awakens when i feel the brakes slam and the driver yelling cuss words. or when i see a driver drift into the lane. or pass a brutal wreck. i would like to go very fast and not be dragged and have my legs severed or fly through the window and end up across 3 lanes of speeding traffic. "death, be swift and final."

...

apparently the orlando airport police wear short shorts.
