in southern california we plan on doing a ton of shows so for those dates are open to doing youth or college group church functions on whatever night those happen to fall on. for the rest of the country we don't because we will be in and out.

i want to play high schools during the day as well. so if you see your state listed up there ask your teachers about having us come and do either a school wide performance or smaller scale one in the library or just getting a few of the english classes together. for high schools i can teach about writing and do poems and songs, etc. yes, this will cost money so before writing to my booking agent at all make sure your faculty knows there is a fee and they are willing to pay something to have us come. show them my book and record, assure them i'm a published writer and have done this stuff before, ya know, talk it up to them. you can get me there if you try, teachers LOVE it when their kids get excited about a poet, i've had librarians email me before, ha. and lots of kids enter my poems into school competitions all the time.

IF YOU WANT TO DO A SHOW EMAIL: mrjonesbooking@gmail.com with the subject as "your city/state/dang dang tour"...with the following questions answered.

1)where do you do shows (be specific, city, state, venues, etc.)
2)what shows have you done before?
3)if this is a house show, how old are you? (if your house is super tiny don't bother writing...it needs to have a good sized living room)
4)how much money can you offer? how many kids do you expect?
5)why do you want to do the show?

thank you all for your support along the way...this tour brought out people that have seen years ago and are still coming around and still digging it. that warms my little heart like this snoring little pug asleep in the corner.

boise, idaho and out.
bradley hathaway
Friday, November 02, 2007

i am at an airport in orlando. i'm supposed to be in the airplane that left a couple hours ago but the florida highway department neglected to post that the turnpike taking poets to the airport would be closed for a small stretch, creating a 20 mile driveinto 1 hour and 45 minutes...so my show of 3,000 kids at this conference in peoria, illinois will be going on without me until i arrive too late to perform this evening. i will be able to do the seminars in the morning but it's always exciting to jam out in front of so many kids. oh well. it's all good.

...

tour is great. some shows are a bit weird because we might be playing with 6 metal and grindcore bands with names like "massacre of the umbilical chord" but ya know, we do what we do regardless.

...

so we've had 3 near death experiences thus far, all of which occured in the middle of the night/early morning:
one. hitting a deer on the interstate in wisconsin. "deer!"
two. crazy new york drivers and abrupt lane endings, twice in one night with rain. "bleep bleep bleep!"
three. a greyhound bus nearly pushing us over the edge of a hundred foot plus tall bridge. "dude!"

among fears i have in life like being rejected, unloved, and serious things such as that, i do fear dying in a blazing glory on the interstate. when you drive as much as i do you see how dangerous driving so fast so often is so dangerous. the fear hasn't impaired my life in anyway...it's not like someone afraid of spiders or something...it's just a persistant reality/fear that looms as i lay down in the backseat and awakens when i feel the brakes slam and the driver yelling cuss words. or when i see a driver drift into the lane. or pass a brutal wreck. i would like to go very fast and not be dragged and have my legs severed or fly through the window and end up across 3 lanes of speeding traffic. "death, be swift and final."

...

apparently the orlando airport police wear short shorts.

Monday, October 15, GMT

curiously, i've never been one to read fiction. i read some of it in school but never got inside of it, never enjoyed it. it was no one's fault, and i don't think it a fault of mine. i just wasn't into it. the only book i vaguely remember liking was "a seperate peace". i don't think a 14 year old could truly understand "the old man and the sea" or even "moby dick" in the way that an older person could. i wasn't ready for such things. i started to read "princess bride" as i just turned 20 but never finished it, though i found the beginning beautiful. i've been told to read fiction for sometime now, especially since i'm a "writer" but i found my peace in nonfiction, in books about nature, or books about god and things. i felt fiction was a waste of time. i told myself that it wasn't true so why bother.

but a couple months ago i decided to give it a go. i started with two flannery o'conner books and my mind exploded in the first one. and then a george macdonald fantasy "lilith". now "east of eden" by steinbech...i've been stuck there because i started in on some thomas merton stuff...i never used the part of my brain that reading stimulates. watching a movie just isn't the same. i'm blown away by character development and the way that characters come in and leave. the different personalities. the descriptions of things going on. it's amazing. i realize how poor my own writing is now but i'm not exactly discouraged. i've just been ignorant of good writing for 25 years...i mean good fiction writing...so now i expect my own writing to improve as i see how the big boys and girls do it. i'm even considering going back to school in the spring to study english (we'll see).

...

i'm staying in a trailer. there's a metal roof and large front porch with swing. it rained alot last night and i enjoyed the sounds very much. i try to sleep on front porch swing on occassion but every hour or so one of the dogs licks my face off and it's pointless to try to be left alone by their tongues. their love.

...

there is a brokeness in my heart that i cannot articulate. at one time and even in glimpses i'm able to say as i feel or have felt. but i've already said some of those things. and the current hurt is to much that i don't even know where to begin for fear of sounding cliche and cheap. there is a groaning within that only the Spirit can understand.

i find my own and others need for privacy and my need to share at war with one another. on one hand i am tired of being an open, broken vessel. on the other hand it is my brokeness that so many respond to. on one hand i want to remain unknown. on the other hand i want to be known, loved, and accepted.

i am thankful that the maker of the sun and moon and the stars knows, loves, and accepts me as i am.

...

i am leaving for tour very soon. getting the tires rotated. the merch ordered. the suitcase packed. i really hope you can make it out. it won't be like other tours, but those that have seen me a few times know that no tour is the same. for those of you that pray i would ask that you be praying for me, joel (drums), matt(guitar/bass) and ric (cello/standup bass) as we travel about. and for those that come to the shows.

Tuesday, October 02, to hang out with them until their newest date shows up...giving the appearance that they are not unpopular or that they could in fact be hanging out with someone else (like me, "bradley") instead of their upcoming date.

i enjoy both worlds.

...

the hog farm is no longer a hog farm (i live on a hog farm in arkansas)...all hundreds of the hogs have been sold off except two, elvis and saggy pants. since the government decided to start investing in corn as the new gas, corn went up 70%, causing the cost of feeding the pigs and livestock to raise to a cost that has driven the hog farmers across the land out of business. it's very sad. it's very amazing how everything is so connected.

elvis and saggy pants were just too good to the farmers to let them go be slaughtered so they sleep all day now. "dakota" and "i got pain"...sorry, i had to take off "silence" to make room for the new stuff. there's still a few poems up on purevolume if you are interested. by now hopefully you bought the poems up already, though!

the new record will NOT be sold in stores. only online and at shows. for now it's $15 preorder price but will go up to $20 after second week of september.
here's the link...

http://www.zambooie.com/stores/?st_id=75

i am not on a record label. totally independent. so your support is happily appreciated if you may.

here's upcoming dates... a few more have been added since last post...
need some help in wisconsin and california still, as well as boise, idaho.

Sep 2 2007	8:00P
life light festival	sioux falls, South Dakota
Sep 14 2007	7:00P
the journey (cd release)	russellville, Arkansas
Sep 15 2007	7:00P
convergence	oklahoma city, Oklahoma
Oct 12 2007	12:00P
start of CD RELEASE TOUR october 12 - november 24	coast to coast usa
Oct 12 2007	7:00P
main street cafe	kansas city, Missouri
Oct 13 2007	7:00P
sokol underground	omaha, Nebraska
Oct 19 2007	7:00P
skelletones	grand rapids, Michigan
Oct 20 2007	7:00P
the lodge (east flint church of the nazerene)	flint, Michigan
Oct 23 2007	6:00P
tba	trucksville, Pennsylvania
Oct 24 2007	7:00P
the living proof	middletown, Connecticut
Oct 25 2007 7:00P
Rockwells sicklerville, New Jersey
Oct 26 2007	7:00P
Vineyard Christian Fellowship at the Barn	landenberg, Pennsylvania
Oct 27 2007 7:00P
Living Word lynchburg, Virginia
Oct 30 2007	8:00P
the treehouse	lawrenceville
Oct 31 2007	7:00P
murray hill theatre	jacksonville, Florida
Nov 1 2007	7:00P
the capitol	ocala, Florida
Nov 7 2007	8:00P
fuel cyber cafe	humble, Texas
Nov 8 2007	7:00P
the door	dallas, Texas
Nov 9 2007	7:00P
the revolution	el paso, Texas
Nov 10 2007	7:00P
modified arts	phoenix, Arizona
Nov 12 2007	8:00P
need shows in cali nov 11-15	california
Nov 16 2007	7:00P
the revolution	ashland, Oregon
Nov 17 2007	6:00P
riversdale grange	roseburg, Oregon
Nov 19 2007	7:00P
the q cafe	seattle, Washington
Nov 21 2007	7:30P
kilby court	salt lake city, Utah
Nov 24 2007	7:00P
eagle’s lodge	wichita, Kansas

may the lord bless you and keep you. may the lord shine his face upon you.

sincerely,
bradley
